We are pleased to present you with the first construction update from on the Foursquare Christian Curch “Pan de Vida” Villa Cielo church plant in Villa Cielo, Colombia.
Overview
Two plots of land next to the only soccer field in the Villa Cielo neighborhood were donated to Foursquare Christian Church to plant a daughter church that will have a Compassion-assisted child development center to deliver its holistic development program to children living in poverty. One plot belonged to a church member, and the other belonged to mother church Pastor Erenia González.
Progress to Date
Construction on the new building was scheduled to begin in June after the land was legally deeded to the church. The church first received quotes for the costs of materials and labor, and contracted with an architect and other building experts regarding the structural work, stakeout, manual excavation of the site, and laying the reinforced concrete footing.
Since the church-plant process began, a survey taken in the community reflected acceptance of the proposed church and all of the activities to come, including services, Sunday school, evangelism campaigns, and the children’s holistic development program.
Currently 37 adults and 45 children attend the church, and we are happy to announce that during this period four people committed their lives to Christ and 33 people were baptized.
Challenges Encountered
Before any construction could begin, the church needed to raise funds for soil analysis as well as learn about the process to obtain a deed. Compassion staff assisted in these processes, and all were successful.
Testimony of Faith
I was praying for a long time that our God would give us the opportunity to have land where we could meet. We made many efforts without results, but God touched the heart of a man to donate part of the land, and our pastor from the mother church to donate the other part and even more, He touched your heart as donors to give funds and make sure that our dream comes true, having a place where we can congregate and assist children.
There is great expectation from the church’s leaders and the community regarding the construction and the program in partnership with Compassion, but we are sure that we will achieve great results and the church will grow every day. Blessings, with many thanks and love.
