Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, the church plant team at Iglesia Amor Viviente has made steady gains since our last report. Construction is progressing on the new facility in Danli, Honduras and the team is very active in community ministry.
80 adults and 40 children are attending the church and five people recently made professions of faith. Your gift to plant a new church is bringing hope and new life to a community in desperate need.
Construction Progress and Next Steps
- Workers completed the classrooms and office; electricity has been installed and roofing is finished.
- A roof is being installed over the church/multipurpose module and the work will shortly conclude.
- Construction has started on the kitchen and the bathrooms.
Over the next 60 days, workers plan to finish roofing the multipurpose area and begin work on walls and flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Challenges and Learning Opportunities
The team has faced several challenges, including the rising cost of construction materials and a lack of water at the construction site due to drought.
Staff share that they see God’s faithfulness expressed as He provides for them in various ways. They are encouraged by the community’s support for the new church.
Church Activities
The pastor and church are working closely in ministry and projects throughout the community. Women from the church are providing food for the construction crew and volunteers. Recent activities include:
- Conducting a census to determine how many children are eligible for the child development center.
- Supervising the construction project.
- Expediting construction as volunteers work at the site during the evenings.
- Participating in child development trainings with Compassion.
- Raising local resources through multiple fundraising events.
The church team expects to launch the child development program within the next few months and they are very eager to begin serving children.
Luis is 55 years old and a life-long resident of the community who shared his gratitude for the new church:
