Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, thank you for your partnership in planting a new church in Honduras. The presence of the new church, Iglesia Amor Viviente, is bringing hope to a community in extreme poverty.
Residents of the community are very receptive to the gospel and over the last 60 days, 32 people have professed faith in Christ. Currently, 80 adults and 40 children are attending the new church.
In the above photo, child development staff survey the community and register children for Compassion’s program.
Construction Progress and Next Steps
Church members have volunteered their labor during preliminary work such as leveling the land and prepping the site. Materials have been purchased including sand, stone, wood, etc. A simple warehouse was built to safely store materials and supplies.
Over the next 60 days, workers plan to accomplish many tasks including:
- Layout and marking.
- Digging the lower floor and trenches for retaining walls.
- Laying concrete blocks for columns, reinforcing columns and laying them.
- Work on the lower floor (formwork, casting, etc.).
Challenges and Learning Opportunities
The biggest challenges were obtaining land and fundraising during the pandemic. Additionally, after the land had been leveled, there was a landslide due to heavy rains. The challenges have strengthened the church’s faith.
Staff report that despite all the difficulties, God has been faithful and has provided for this work. They offer all that they have to God and they have seen Him multiply it and answer their prayers. Leaders are encouraged as they see the church growing and how eager the community is to participate in the Lord’s work.
Recent Church Activities
A census was carried out to identify the most disadvantaged children so that they participate in the church’s child development program. The pastor, the church, and the community have collaborated in fundraising activities such as selling pozoles to raise local resources.
Praises and Prayer Requests
Church leaders express their gratitude for your generosity and partnership to help those most in need. They thank you for remembering the poor and investing in the wellbeing of children. They firmly believe that their community is already being transformed by the church’s presence.
The church is overjoyed that the families in the neighborhood have accepted and welcomed God’s work and that children will grow in many ways, including spiritually. Staff ask you to join them in prayer for the following requests:
- May all of God’s plans for the church be accomplished and all opposition be thwarted.
- That the church and families be united.
- May God continue to supply all that is needed.
Impact of Your Gift
Your gift to plant a new church and child development center is bringing hope to families living in extreme poverty. When families learn of the child development center, they can finally envision a better future for their children.
We look forward to bringing you more updates on the progress of this church plant. Thank you for partnering with Compassion International!
