Construction Progress
The team reports that they have completed 85% of the construction. The status of each area is listed below:
- Classrooms and kitchen: Window grates and gates are installed. A bricklaying crew is finishing beams and columns and construction has begun on the sidewalks.
- Sanctuary: a roof was placed. Workers are finishing beams and columns on the sanctuary, compacting the floor around the altar and building stairs.
- Restrooms: a roof was placed.
Next Steps
Over the next 60 days, final tasks include:
- Painting (exterior and interior).
- Installing light fixtures, switches, outlets and an electrical panel.
- Laying sidewalks.
- Installing doors.
- Plumbing and tile work in the restroom block.
Challenges and Learning Opportunities
Uneven terrain has posed challenges for laying level floors and sidewalks. This required extra labor that the team didn’t plan for, but they met the challenge by leveling the ground and installing steps up into the main entrance. Staff are grateful that parents volunteered to level the ground.

Recent Church Activities
Members of the church and parents of the children participating in the Compassion center have been assisting with construction. The church organizes work crews and also has times of praying and fasting over the work. Church staff regularly communicate with participant’s parents about Compassion’s programming for the children.
Rosario is the mother of a child participating in the Compassion center. She shares the impact of the new church:
“The impact that the church is making in the community is outstanding. Our community is supportive of the church, and our children enjoy the teachings and activities. My son Jefferson is more friendly, sociable and expressive. These facilities are necessary to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for the children to develop their talents and gifts.”
- Children and parents attend an information session about the Compassion child development center.
