Preston Trails Community Church, we are pleased to bring you an update from Iglesia del Nazareno in Léon, Nicaragua. Currently, 70 adults and 200 children attend the church and the community is very supportive of the church plant! This report includes photos and an update on construction status and church activities.
Construction Progress and Learning Opportunities
In June, the church received a construction permit from the municipality of León. Getting the building permit was a great learning opportunity. The lengthy application process began in March. The process was extremely complicated and required documents that were hard to obtain. The pastors organized a time of prayer and fasting, believing that the project would be built to honor God and for the wellbeing of local children and youth.
Workers recently built a pool to collect drinking water that will be needed during construction. The mother and daughter churches are working on fundraising activities to raise local resources as their contribution to the project.
Next Steps
Church leaders plan to meet with the construction supervisor to finalize a list of materials, equipment and tools; select vendors and site personnel, and discuss technical recommendations. The church hopes to soon begin preliminary site work and excavations.
Community Impact
Carlos directs the church’s child development center. Carlos shares:
“The most striking and surprising testimony is the interest and support of the community with the construction project. Every child and young person is looking forward to the new facilities where they know they will feel comfortable, safe and encouraged. The parents are organized and participate in the program activities. Parents say that their participation is in gratitude for the blessings that their children receive through the church and the Compassion ministry.”
- All children participating in Compassion’s child development program receive medical checkups and necessary care.
- Children are weighed and measured during their medical exams.
