Mission Hills Church, thank you for your generosity in planting a new church in Tanzania. The construction is complete at Kanisa La Biblia and the church’s Compassion center is serving 150 children. The church plant team shares that 75 people have given their lives to Christ. The photo above shows a worship service in the new sanctuary. Staff from the mother church loaned their instruments for the special service.
Construction Milestones
The church plant was born after an outreach by the mother church to a nearby village where families and children were living in extreme poverty. Many people responded to the message of salvation and the need for a church plant was evident. Initially, the new church met in a temporary worship hall, but they needed classrooms and bathrooms.
Leaders from the mother church and daughter church collaborated closely throughout the construction process. They regularly visited the construction site to monitor construction and provide updates. The construction plan included a worship hall, offices, kitchen, bathrooms and classrooms. The milestones included:
- Meeting with church leaders to create a plan and timeline.
- Hiring a contractor.
- Clearing the site.
- Laying foundation of all the buildings.
- Raising walls and roofing.
- Plastering and painting walls.
- Monitoring and evaluation.
The construction project was a gift to the community and the church hired villagers as laborers. The new church, Kanisa la Biblia, is a bright light in a community that needs the hope of the gospel. As construction finished, 150 children were registered in the Compassion program and it was a joyful event in the village. With the completed facility, the church is equipped to safely offer Compassion’s child and youth development program.
Although the original plan didn’t include the cost of drilling a well, the church needed water at the construction site and they wanted to provide water to villagers. Due to inflation and the unplanned addition of a well, the playground hasn’t been installed yet. The church team will mobilize local resources and install a playground in the coming months.
Ministry Progress
In response to the ministry of the church, 75 people have given their lives to Christ. Staff are working to disciple the new believers and encourage them to attend church. The church and child development center are having a positive impact on the community. Families are very excited about the sponsorship program and they look forward to their children being sponsored.
The child development center offers classes on Saturdays and all of the children consistently attend. Caregivers wholeheartedly participate in training and volunteer to help. Although the center doesn’t have chairs and desks for the children yet, caregivers are grateful that the children are registered. The community is eager for more children to be registered in the Compassion program.
Impact of Your Gift
Florence directs the church’s child development center. She describes the effect of the church on the village:
“Kanisa la Biblia has more capacity to bring hope and care for the less privileged people in the community. The church enjoys a good relationship with villagers and community leaders. The church team included local people throughout the process, villagers feel that the church and center belongs to their community.
We are very grateful to the supporters for what they have done for this community. It is a very poor community that needed this support to create a better future for the coming generation. May God bless those who supported this church.”
Kaifa is a Compassion participant who says that he used to be sick, malnourished and without hope. He shared that Jesus brought new hope to him and the greatest change in his life is knowing Jesus. He is very grateful to God and the church and now he tells others about Jesus.
