Menlo Church, your great generosity is helping babies to survive the crucial first 12 months, when their lives are the greatest risk and they are most vulnerable to illness and hunger. At Iglesia del Nazareno (PE0331), Iglesia del Nazareno (PE0373) and Iglesia Casa de Oración La Unidad (PE0594) in Peru, your support is providing proper nutrition, access to medical care and a broad range of life-saving neo- and postnatal supports for both infants and their mothers. You are ensuring babies born into crippling poverty have the opportunity to thrive, setting them on the path to a healthy, happy childhood.
Currently, 51 mother and baby pairs are enrolled in the Survival initiatives you support. The mothers have the comfort of knowing that they will receive comprehensive support as they navigate the first year of their baby’s life, with breastfeeding assistance, regular growth monitoring and supplemental food and vitamins. They even have opportunities to learn new skills so they can earn income to help support their families. Thank you for making all this possible.

Leydi is a mother who participates in the Survival program at PE0331. She shares:
“I thank the Survival Specialist for praying for me and my family always. She teaches me the Word of God, and at every discipleship meeting, I learn how important it is to have God present in my life. I am also building income-generation skills, thanks to the workshops I attend each month. I am learning how to make jewelry, hair bows and other accessories. I never miss a class because I want to learn more so I can start my own business in the future.“

“My baby’s name is Dariell. I thank God he is healthy and happy. I really like the child development lessons the Survival Specialist teaches. The advice she gives is easy to understand. I participate in a sewing workshop. I now know how to make a pair of pants. Every month, my baby is being monitored by the health specialist who records his weight and height. I am very happy and grateful to be part of the Survival program. I thank God we are so blessed.“

Milagros is a mother who participates in the Survival program at PE0594. She shares:
“The Survival program came into my life at the perfect time. I didn’t have anything, my husband didn’t have a job, and I was pregnant and had health issues. A neighbor told me about the program, and I called the secretary who told me the director would visit me. They interviewed me and said they would call me to let me know if I was going to be selected. When they called to tell me I was accepted, I felt so much joy in my heart because I knew God’s blessing was coming to my home. Since then, many blessings have come to my family, including food relief baskets, hygiene kits and regular home visits from a nurse, who monitored my pregnancy. When I gave birth to my little girl, I named her Alexa. The program gave me diapers and a set of clothes. We were overjoyed to receive these gifts. I always pray that the church would reach the right families who really need them.”

Babies Transition to Compassion’s Sponsorship Program
Thanks to your support, these babies and others have recently celebrated their first birthdays and transitioned to home-based care through Compassion’s Sponsorship Program. They will continue their growth with the guidance provided to them by the staff at Iglesia del Nazareno (PE0331), Iglesia del Nazareno (PE0373) and Iglesia Casa de Oración La Unidad (PE0594) and a loving sponsor.
Survival Program Spotlight: Delivery Care
The health of mothers and newborns is intricately related. Because of this, Compassion church partners provide prenatal care to give expectant moms and their babies the support they need for a safe and healthy birth. Mothers are able to attend prenatal medical appointments, when in the past they could never have considered such an expense. They also receive transportation to their local health center or hospital so they can keep those appointments. If their pregnancy has proceeded smoothly, skilled birth attendants guide and support them through the birthing process. Mothers who develop complications are connected to advanced medical care (including surgery, if necessary). After the babies arrive, the program gifts the new moms with baskets full of hygiene supplies and newborn necessities. All of this is possible through your generous giving!
