Menlo Church, thank you so much for your continued partnership in planting churches in Peru with Compassion International. We are excited to collaborate with you on another life-changing church plant project in the San Martin de Alao community in the El Dorado province of the San Martin region of Peru.
Bringing Hope to a New Community
The average household income in San Martin de Alao is less than $280 per month, and 81 percent of all homes have dirt floors. Sanitation is a problem in this area, as 60 percent of children have intestinal parasites due to unsafe water and poor hygiene habits. The overall education level in the area is low because the schools are inadequate. Ninety percent of students have difficulty in math and reading comprehension, and nearly 18 percent of secondary-level students are two years behind grade level.
The mother church, Pilgrims of Peru Evangelical Church of San Jose de Sisa, has purchased the property where this daughter church will be built (shown above). Church leaders identified San Martin de Alao, a community of more than 6,300 people, as a place that both needs and is ready for the good news of Jesus. The mother church has already been sending small groups there for evangelistic campaigns, door-to-door outreach and social work.
Reporting Schedule
As with the recently completed Iglesia del Nazareno de Cura Morí in Piura, which you so graciously supported, this website will be the home of progress updates.
Every 30-60 days until construction is complete and registered children are participating in Compassion’s program, we will alert you of new reports from the field. Of course, we encourage you to visit the website regularly as you pray for the people this project will serve this year and in the future.
Here is the schedule of communications and reports you can expect to see posted here for the duration of this project:*
- April 2019 – Construction Confirmation and Reporting Schedule
- May 2019 – Church Plant Progress Update No. 1
- July 2019 – Church Plant Progress Update No. 2
- September 2019 – Church Plant Progress Update No. 3
- November 2019 – Church Plant Progress Final Update
- December 2019 – Construction Closeout Report
The Building Project
Through support from Menlo Church, Compassion International will partner with the mother church to launch a child development center and register 150 children from San Martin de Alao.
The specific objectives of this project are to build a facility that includes:
- Five classrooms
- One multipurpose room
- One kitchen
- One staff office
- One restroom each for males and females
The Difference You Will Make
Because of this project, children will also have access to clean, functional and gender-appropriate bathrooms so they can apply the hygiene lessons they will learn. This will reduce the incidence of health problems for them and, as a result, the community.
The classrooms provided through your support will create safe environments for children to learn about and reflect upon lessons from the Bible. This will encourage the spiritual development of participating families and result in a better quality of life.
Through cultural and educational opportunities, the children will develop new skills to help them become self-sustaining, well-rounded adults who contribute to their community. And through sports and games offered, they will enjoy childhood as well.
Thank you!
If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We thank you for entrusting us with stewardship of your investment, and we pray for blessings upon you as you bless the children of Peru!
*The mother church noted that the rain in San Martin during some months of the year could pose a challenge to construction schedules. If anything changes from this schedule, we will update it here and notify you.
