Greetings, Foothills Bible Church! We’re pleased to bring you an update from the church plant you support in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic. Construction is underway at Iglesia Cristiana Reformada Nueva Vida and the team is making steady progress. Currently, six adults and 35 children are attending the church.
This update contains photos and details on construction and the church’s ministry. A view of the current construction is shown in the photo above.
Construction Progress and Next Steps
The church has two adjacent plots of land with a combined size of 5,381 square feet. Workers prepared the ground for the construction and set the foundations. Next, they began building the walls with concrete blocks. The team is making steady progress, despite some work stoppages due to heavy rain.
The church team and the youth ministry have been very involved in the construction. Members of the youth group participate by carrying materials and assisting the workers.
Over the next 60 days, workers plan to finish placing blocks at the lower beam level and continue building walls.
Challenges and Learning Opportunities
The road that leads to the church property is unpaved. Staff report that their primary challenge has been driving to the construction site. The road is especially difficult to navigate after rainstorms.
The church is determined to bring the gospel to children and families living in their remote community. A staff member shared, “We have learned a lot during this journey and see the opportunity to reach the innermost places of the community and bring the word of eternal life. It has been a great joy for us to undertake this beautiful work, regardless of the rain. Challenges turn into learning and opportunities. “
Church Activities
Until the construction is complete, the church plans to have worship services and children’s Bible classes on the property. The pastor has led special services to introduce the community to the new church and child development center. The members of the church and the community are grateful for the presence of the new church.
The church plant is the only local ministry that is focused on children. Mrs. Míguela is a member of the church who was concerned for local children. She sees the church’s impact on children and youth, “As soon as the church arrived, I noticed the impact in the children. The Bible classes and playful activities have been a great blessing, and we see God at work in our community.”
