Greetings, Frisco First Baptist Church! Thank you for your gift to expand Truth and Life Baptist Church’s capacity for outreach in Oaxaca, Mexico. As you will see in this initial report from the field, the church is working diligently to advance the construction project. We are delighted to update you with the most recent construction details, testimonies from the community, and praises and prayer requests from the church.
Construction Progress
Construction is progressing on schedule. So far, workers have leveled and cleared the land, and completed foundation work for one building. Classroom foundations are also complete, and construction work on the walls is in progress.
The church pastor expresses that, “God has blessed us in being able to move forward on this project in the middle of a pandemic which displays His sovereign control over all things. We have learned that when God shows His will and we respond in faith, He provides what is needed. Paying for labor has been challenging, but we have seen the church respond in multiple ways to meet this need. We have learned that with enthusiasm, unity, commitment and faith, everything is possible.”
Next Steps
In the next 60 days, the church plans to complete the following:
- Finish the classroom walls
- Build a roof over the buildings
- Begin electrical installations
- Install flooring
Church Activities
Currently, 150 adults and 70 children are a part of the church congregation. Due to the global pandemic, ministry for Truth and Life Baptist Church looks different than normal. Church staff are providing spiritual care and learning through radio broadcasting. They are leading worship sessions, prayer groups, devotionals and discipleship through virtual platforms. Staff are also visiting with families while practicing social distancing. Community members, children, church staff and parents have all volunteered to participate in the construction project.
Testimony of a Parent in the Community
“My 7-year-old son Daniel was invited to the church and he liked the things they taught him a lot. At that time, I was struggling with an alcohol addiction and had many problems with my wife. One day, a staff member from the church told me about Jesus. Little by little I listened and learned, and then I went to church. I stopped drinking and learned about God in the Bible. I started regularly going to the services and then my wife also accepted Christ as her Savior.
In the midst of this pandemic, it has been very difficult to get a job. But with the start of the new child development center, the church gave me a job right there. This has been very good for my family because not only do I have a secure job, but we are also learning about God. I do not drink anymore and the problems with my family have been solved. I thank God for this church because it has made a great impact on me and my family.”
