Thank you, First Baptist Church Tulsa, for supporting your latest church plant, Iglesia Bautista Bethel – Santo Domingo, in Unión Juárez, Chiapas, Mexico. As you can see in this latest field report, the building project is progressing well despite challenges posed by rainy weather. We hope this progress inspires you as much as it is inspiring a community desperate for God’s love and grace.
Construction Progress
The church has purchased materials for the first phase of the construction and begun building the foundation and walls.
The pastor, who has worked in construction professionally, supports us by supervising the construction and interpreting the plans. He helps workers understand better what they have to do in their daily activities.
Church Activities
Currently, 25 adults and 100 children attend the church regularly.
In the past 60 days, three people have made first-time professions of faith in Christ.
The community, through the municipal authorities, continues to give its support by loaning us public buildings to carry out our activities on Saturdays.
In addition, there is physical and economic support from the church in this process.
Challenges Encountered
We have the challenge of the rainy season. We are in an area where it rains almost all year. Now the first rains are beginning. Sometimes there are days when it rains from very early morning until the afternoon, complicating the progress of construction.
Next Steps
- Continue the construction of the church’s walls and hallways.
- Distribute the pipe for the electrical wiring.
- Start with the layout of the bathrooms.
Testimony of Impact
Seeing the progress of the construction of the new church allows me to see the dimensions of the facilities that we will have in the future.
It makes me think about the great capacity that there will be to take care of many more children than we have now. Because there will be more children, there will be more families to whom the gospel can be shared.
– Geisy Levi Pascual Sánchez, director of the program in Unión Juárez
Praises and Prayer Requests
We have a common phrase passed down from earlier generations – “The family is for support.” It is gratifying to see how the blood of Christ makes us brothers and sisters and gives us the privilege of being called children of God. We appreciate this great support that you gave us as a church. God bless you, brothers and sisters. We are praying for you.
Please pray for:
- the community – it is highly Catholic, and some families are using this as a reason for not allowing their children to attend the child development center.
- the families represented by each of the children who attend the center.
- the life of each one of the construction workers as there are latent risks to which they are exposed; pray that God keeps them well and that they can finish construction on time.
- the life of each one of the tutors so that God can provide them with the wisdom that comes from above (James 3:17) because they are the ones who are in the most contact with the children in the classrooms; pray that they may show the children how to behave and be examples for them.
