We are so pleased to be able to begin a second round of reporting for First Baptist Church Tulsa thanks to your support of Iglesia Bautista Bethel – Santo Domingo (Bethel Baptist Church – Santo Domingo) in the mountain community of Union Juarez, Chiapas, Mexico. On the rainy slopes of the second-highest peak in Central America, the Tacaná volcano (4,265 feet above sea level), your new church plant is beginning to build its new building on a 6,724-square-foot parcel of land.
Construction Progress
The community currently supports us with a basketball court to carry out the activities of Compassion’s child development program because the church’s land is not safe due to the construction that is being carried out.
So far, the church has:
- Made initial purchases of land and supplies
- Set and recorded measurements for construction
- Laid the foundation
Church Activities
Currently, 25 adults and 100 children attend the church regularly.
In the last 60 days, three people have made first-time professions of faith in Christ.
The pastor supports us by arranging price quotes for materials and supervising construction. He has construction skills to do it, and this has been a great support for the church. He will ensure everything can go as planned.
Challenges Encountered
An early challenge came when we received the first price quotes for materials. They were very high in cost, so two more quotes were made, and we chose the most accessible for future purchases.
Next Steps
We will begin construction of the rooms, starting from the front.
Testimony of Impact
Since beginning this church plant, thanks to the support from First Baptist Church Tulsa, we began to see an enormous benefit for the children of the child development center. First, because the construction of classrooms will allow us to provide better basic care for the children and provide a safe place. It will allow us to have a stronger impact in the community because the new facilities help the families feel confident that their children will be well cared for. This opens the way to homes that still do not live under the grace of God.
The beginning has not been easy, but we have seen the hand of God move, and today we can physically see the progress of construction.
And by faith we believe that at the end of this construction project we will say, “Eben-ezer.”
Praises and Prayer Requests
We thank God and each one of you for the love to serve your neighbor. Our children in Union Juarez are grateful to each of you for all this support. We want to thank the Compassion office for sharing this blessing. Our entire church wishes the love of God to be with each one of you. Thank you very much.
Please pray:
- That people in this community give their lives to Christ
- For the construction to be completed in the estimated time
- For safety in the area; there are many tremors
- That the church can make impact with the gospel
- That the families of the beneficiary children commit themselves to the church
