Dear friends at First Baptist Church,
My name is Omar Villagran and I am the National Office Director for Compassion Mexico. I have served the ministry with passion for the past 12 years, fully aware of this high responsibility.
Mexico is a diverse country, with very rich culture, and is well known for beautiful landscapes. But it also holds terrible inequality. While a very small percent of the population are among the richest people in the world, half the population (over 53 million Mexicans) lives in poverty. A fraction of them struggle to live with less than two dollars a day.
We have been called to serve the children among the poor communities, and over the years we have developed different strategies to reach the poorest, which in many cases are indigenous communities.
We understand poverty challenges communities and families by preventing them from offering their children the opportunity to learn, to access clean water, health care, education or a nutritious meal. These circumstances reduce their chances of becoming self-reliant and to succeed in life.
We believe the church is the answer to poverty because the gospel carries in itself the power of transformation that enables people to overcome even in the hardest of situations. This is why we come along the local church to carry out a child development program in their communities, which provides opportunities for children to develop, to become independent and to learn about God.
Compassion Mexico currently partners with more than 200 evangelical churches of different denominations and backgrounds, but we carefully select the best partners. There are exceptional men and women who love God and children and who have received a calling to serve them and their families.
We deeply appreciate your willingness to support our programs in Mexico. Your contribution and your commitment to hold the work we do in prayer is significant to us and we praise God for your involvement.
May the Lord continue to shine upon you with peace.
In Christ,
Omar Villagran Arjona
National Office Director, Compassion Mexico
