Greetings, First Baptist Church Allen! Thank you for your gift to provide food relief to 3,448 children and their families during a second wave of COVID-19 in Peru. Families received nutritious food to last them three months with two meals per person per day. Their communities were blessed with a deeper understanding of God’s love in their time of need.

Implementation Progress
The following steps were completed during the implementation of this intervention:
- A meeting was held to coordinate implementation across 11 frontline church partners.
- Each frontline church partner formed a team to deliver relief packages to their community.
- Nutrition specialists and health experts advised church staff when they purchased food.
- Volunteers helped transfer purchased food to the churches.
- Church staff and volunteers prepared the food baskets with items such as rice, noodles, oil, milk, oatmeal and beans.
- Families visited the churches to pick up their food baskets. Church staff delivered food baskets to those who were unable to come to the church.
- Church staff maintained communication with children and their families to monitor their health, and children received medical checkups. It was reported that malnutrition rates decreased.
Impact of the Intervention
Because of this intervention, 3,448 children and their families at 11 frontline church partners received enough food to last three months with two meals per person per day. Food relief was especially helpful during the second wave of COVID-19 in Peru because many caregivers had lost jobs and were unable to provide basic necessities for their families. The food they received helped prevent severe malnutrition for both children and adults. In addition to food, frontline church partners also delivered medicine and gifts.
This intervention helped frontline church partners improve their relationships with volunteers, community members, the children they serve and local authorities. More families began participating in church activities.
A Testimony From Gerardo, the Pastor of Iglesia Alianza Cristiana y Misionera (PE0677)
“Children are thankful for the way the church has supported them with food to keep them healthy and strong. Families have come to understand that God is their provider, and caregivers have greater appreciation for the work that the church does in their community. We are extremely grateful to God for your giving hearts that are helping children in need, especially during the pandemic. We pray that God continues to bless you, your work and your families.”
A Testimony From Atilano, the Pastor of Iglesia del Nazareno (PE0380)
“The lives of children improved after they received three deliveries of food in August, September and October. Because they received food, families had enough money to send their children to school. The church has worked to meet the needs of children, causing local authorities to express gratitude for the church.”
A Testimony From a Mother Named Lilia
“During the pandemic, there was no work and food prices were increasing. We ate basic meals, usually just vegetables or beans with no meat. Now, we have nutritious food that protects us our children from malnutrition and anemia, which commonly contribute to children performing poorly in school and not developing as they should. This intervention improved the wellbeing of my family. We are happy and relieved. We have learned that God is a good father who provides for all of our needs.”
A Testimony From a Mother Named Rocio
“My husband works as a carpenter, but during the pandemic, there were no orders so we could not afford food. Previously, we bought only the basics and ate small quantities. Now, we are able to eat a more balanced diet, including beans, milk, noodles, meat and fish. My children are better fed and will no longer be malnourished. Now that my daughter has enough food to eat, her academic performance is also improving. We thank God we have food at home. God always provides because he is faithful.”
