Blue Valley Baptist Church, we are grateful for your gift to plant a new church, Igreja Batista, in Maranhão, Brazil. Children and youth living in this region of northeastern Brazil have few opportunities for holistic development and often lack hope for the future. Igreja Batista is located in a remote, rural community of extreme poverty. The community lacks basic services such as safe water and sanitation.
Typical homes in the area have mud walls, cement floors and tile roofs. Common health problems in the community include malnutrition, flu, diarrhea, parasites and dengue. Most adults work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $39 per month. The community has high rates of unemployment, a lack of access to healthcare, and many vulnerable children.
Impact of Your Gift
Pastor Geovani, his wife and the staff from Igreja Batista are passionate about ministry in the community and have built a foundation by evangelizing, distributing food baskets, and leading a small group. The new church is bringing the hope of the gospel to children, their families and the entire community.
The church plans to initially enroll 200 children at its Compassion center, Projeto Ágape. The parents and caregivers of children participating in Compassion’s child development program will also have a variety of learning opportunities, such as workshops on income-generation and building healthy families.
Thank You
Your gift will bring life and hope through a vibrant Christ-centered church in this community of extreme poverty. You are scheduled to receive updates on the progress of this church plant every 60 days, beginning in June. We are grateful for your partnership with Compassion International.
