An Interview With Pastor Rubén López
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in the city of Bahia de Caraquez in the province of Manabi at the Ecuadorian coast.
Describe your spiritual journey.
I met God through my mother. She taught me to trust God when I was very young and she always read the Bible to me and told me Bible stories. I decided to accept Jesus Christ when I was 12, so during my childhood and adolescence I was walking with the Lord. When I was 20, I turned away from God because of bad influences and friends that led me to make bad decisions. I had a car accident, where I was in intensive care for more than 15 days. The church and my mother prayed a lot for me because the doctors said there was no hope for me. In that moment at the hospital, I decided to trust in God again and I saw a miracle. I have never turned away from Him again.
Tell us about your family.
Thank God my mother has been a Christian for over 37 years. My Father has not yet accepted Jesus in his heart but little by little we are taking him on the right path. My older brother leads the worship team in the Church of Bahia. I also have a sister who knows about God but currently she does not attend church. I am single and I don’t have children. I am waiting for the right time of the Lord, because his time is perfect.
What led you to become a pastor?
I decided to follow Christ and become a pastor because I saw miracles in my life. God was always good to me and I felt the calling to share that love with other people. I like to preach and motivate people and show them that there is a way of salvation and that there is always hope.
What do you enjoy most about leading this church?
I like to see how the community and people change through the gospel. It brings me joy to see how people see positive results and have a better life when Jesus reaches their hearts. I am very excited to see children who are in a safe place and now they have a better future thanks to the love of Christ.
What is your vision for the church in Pedernales?
My expectation for the church is to see disciples committed to the work we do, to see a strong leadership team working for the kingdom of God. I also dream of seeing an entire transformed community, without risks or dangers for children. My expectation is that the church will be a good influence on the community, so we will be established and a blessed church.
How we can pray for you?
I would like to ask you to pray for the leadership of the church, that they will always be committed to God and to ministry. For the children, that they are always protected and out of danger. For the families of Pedernales, that they will receive Jesus Christ and their lives will be changed. And for my family, so God always keeps us together and on track.
